"God Bless America"
A few days following the terrorist acts of 9/11, I designed the "God Bless America" paint job . That Friday I began to airbrush my Ford van and continued to paint the van for the next 8 days. The entire paint and polish took over 300 hours. An American flag is draped across the van with embroidered stars, double stitched borders and a 3-D furled look to give the flag a windswept appearance.
GOD BLESS AMERICA is airbrushed above the flag. Inside each letter is a different illustration of things that are truly American. From moments in history, to landmarks, natural wonders, achievements, memorials, and the five armed forces.
The hood has the crests of both the NYPD and the FDNY to honor the fallen heroes. The rear of the van is for some of the organization that were part of the terrible event, and those who tried in the rescue efforts they include the NYPD, FDNY, EMS, Port Authority Police, the Iron Workers and the hundreds of thousands of volunteers.
This van was painted to inspire all who see it and hopefully help in the healing process for the people of New York City, the surrounding areas and all Americans who were effected by 9/11.
The van is driven every day. It is for all to see. The response to it is always positive, sometimes tearful.
Thank you,
John Cassatto
GOD BLESS AMERICA
